Create VTT Subtitles for Your Videos

Generate Timed Subtitles

Turn spoken audio into synchronized captions with Flixier's automatic subtitle generator. Flixier places each line at the corresponding point in the recording, giving you a timed subtitle track that you can review before downloading it as a VTT file.

Correct Text and Timing

Fix names, technical terms, or words that were misheard within the online subtitle editor. You can also change when each subtitle appears, adjust its duration, split long lines, or add missing captions while previewing them against the video.

Translate Your Subtitles

Translate subtitles to another language before downloading your VTT file. Review the translated captions alongside the video, correct any wording that needs attention, and save each language as a separate subtitle file.

Convert Existing Subtitles

Already have captions in another format? Upload the subtitle file and convert it instead of generating everything again. You can, for example, convert SRT to VTT, correct the text or timing, and download the updated file from the same project.

What is a VTT file?

A VTT, or WebVTT, file contains subtitle text and timecodes that tell a video player when each caption should appear. It is commonly used with online video and can also include information about caption placement and alignment. The file uses the .vtt extension.

How do I create a VTT file from a video?

Import your video into Flixier and generate subtitles from its spoken audio. Review the captions, correct any transcription mistakes, and adjust their timing if necessary. Open the Subtitle tab, select VTT from the download format menu, and click the download icon to save the file.

Can I edit an existing VTT file?

Yes, simply import your VTT file into Flixier and open it alongside the corresponding video. You can rewrite captions, add or remove lines, and change when each subtitle appears. Once you have checked the updated captions against the video, download them again in VTT format.

What is the difference between VTT and SRT?

Both formats store subtitle text and timecodes. SRT has a simpler structure, while VTT was designed for web video and supports additional positioning and styling information. The format you need usually depends on the video player or publishing platform where you plan to use the captions.

Can I create a VTT file from audio?

Yes, import the audio recording and generate subtitles from the spoken content. Flixier creates a timed caption track that you can edit and translate before downloading it as a VTT file. You do not need to turn the audio into a video before creating the subtitles.
