Detach or Mute Audio
Flixier makes it incredibly easy to manage the sound in your projects. Whether you want to extract an MP3 from a video, completely separate the audio to edit it independently, or simply silence a track, you can do it in just a few clicks.
How to Detach Audio
If you want to keep the video but edit the audio independently (or delete the original audio entirely), you can detach it.
- Right-click the video clip on your timeline.
- Select Detach audio from the context menu.
- The audio will be separated from the video and placed onto a brand-new audio track (indicated by a yellow waveform) directly below your video clip.
- You can now move, cut, edit, or delete this audio clip without affecting the video above it.
How to Mute Audio (Clip Level)
If you want to silence a specific clip without separating the audio from the video, you can mute it via the Properties panel.
- Click the video clip on the timeline to select it.
- Navigate to the Properties menu on the right side of the screen and click the Audio tab.
- Click the small speaker icon located directly under the Volume text to mute the clip. Alternatively, you can drag the Volume slider all the way down to 0.
How to Mute Audio (Track Level)
If you have multiple clips on a single track and want to silence all of them at once, you can mute the entire track.
- Look at the track headers on the far-left side of your timeline (where it says "New Track" or "Audio track").
- Click the speaker icon located next to the padlock and eye icons.
- This will mute every media file currently placed on that specific track.
Extracting MP3 Audio from YouTube or Video Files
If your only goal is to download the MP3, you actually don’t need to detach or mute anything on the timeline.
- Import your video file or paste your YouTube link using the Import or Record button.
- Drag the imported video onto your timeline.
- Click the Export button in the top right corner of the screen.
- In the export menu, simply select the Audio format option.
- Click the Export Audio button at the bottom of the panel to process and download the MP3 directly to your device.
