Drawings (How to Draw on Videos)

Flixier allows you to draw freehand directly onto your video canvas. You can also add solid geometric shapes and arrows. Whether you want to circle an important element, write handwritten text, or add creative doodles, you can do it using our built-in drawing tools.

How to Access the Drawing Tools

  1. Navigate to the left sidebar and click on the Elements tab.
  2. Scroll down until you see the Drawings section.
  3. Click on any of the brush icons to launch Drawing Mode.

Using the Freehand Brushes

Once you enter Drawing Mode, your standard menus will pause, and a dark floating toolbar will appear directly next to your video canvas.

  • Select a Brush: Hover over the tool icons to switch between the Pencil, Crayon, Spraypaint, and Marker brushes.
  • Adjust Size: Click the thickness lines on the toolbar to open the Brush Size menu. You can select a predefined dot or drag the slider up to 50 for a custom brush thickness.
  • Pick a Color: Click the color circle at the bottom of the toolbar to open the Ink color menu. You can choose a default swatch or use the picker to select a custom color.
  • Erase: If you make a mistake, select the Eraser tool to wipe away specific parts of your drawing.

Drawing Shapes and Arrows

If you need clean lines, you can draw perfect geometric elements instead of freehand doodles.

  • Select a Shape: Click the icon featuring stacked shapes (a circle, triangle, and square) on the floating toolbar. This opens a menu where you can select a square, circle, triangle, diamond, star, pentagon, hexagon, line, or arrow.
  • Format the Shape: Click the bottom menu icon to customize your shape. You can independently adjust the Fill Color, the Stroke Color, and the Stroke Width using the provided sliders and swatches.

Saving and Adjusting Your Drawing

  • Once you are happy with your doodle, look at the Properties panel on the right side of the screen and click the blue Exit drawing mode button.
  • You can click and drag the left or right edges of this pink clip on the timeline to control exactly when your drawing appears and disappears from the screen.
  • Even after exiting Drawing Mode, you can click on your drawing directly on the canvas to resize it, move it around, or add animations using the right-side Properties panel.
