How to Increase Audio Volume

If your video or audio recording is too quiet, Flixier gives you multiple ways to boost the sound.

Before simply turning up the dial, the best practice is to clean and normalize your audio first. If you increase the gain on a raw recording, you’ll also amplify unwanted background noise.

Here is the recommended workflow to achieve a loud and professional audio.

1. Clean and Normalize

Use our Audio Enhancer to remove background noise and level out the sound before making manual adjustments:

1. Select the media you want to enhance on your timeline.
2. Go to the Audio tab in the right-hand properties menu and click the Enhance Audio button.
3. Choose an enhancement profile that best fits your needs.
4. Click the Enhance Audio button at the bottom of the panel to start processing the audio file.

2. Increase the Gain

The standard Volume slider controls the level of the specific clip in your mix. By default, it sits at 100%, meaning you cannot use it to make a clip louder than its original recording. To push the volume higher, you must adjust the Gain.

1. Go to the Audio tab in the Properties menu.
2. Slide the Gain to the right to increase the signal strength.

Note: Adding too much gain can cause your audio to distort and lose overall quality. Increase the slider slowly and listen to the playback to ensure it still sounds clear.

3. Fine-Tune with the Equalizer

If your clip is loud enough but still lacks punch, you can use the Equalizer to tweak specific frequencies.

1. Go to the Audio tab in the Properties menu to locate the Equalizer.
2. To push the volume and presence of the track higher, click the Presets dropdown menu and select the Loud preset.
3. For manual tuning, click the Customize button right next to the Equalizer to customize your sound profile by individually dragging the frequency (Hz) sliders up or down.
