Turn long videos into short clips (repurpose clips)
Turn Long Videos into Short Clips
Flixier offers two distinct AI-powered methods for repurposing long-form content (like YouTube videos, Zoom meetings, or podcasts) into bite-sized, shareable clips.
Choosing the right tool depends on your workflow:
- The Clips Tool: This is a dedicated, rapid-generation tool. It’s the best choice if you want to quickly extract multiple highlights simultaneously and apply pre-made templates for immediate social media posting.
- Eva (AI Assistant): This is best for custom, integrated workflows. You can prompt Eva directly inside the main editor to extract a specific highlight or multiple clips, and then follow up with additional prompts to continue editing those specific clips manually.
Using the Dedicated Clips Tool
The Clips tool automates the process of finding the best moments in your video and formats them instantly.
Step 1: Import Your Video
- From the main Flixier dashboard, click on All Tools in the left-hand menu.
- In the For video section, click the Clips card.
- Paste a YouTube or Zoom link directly into the search bar, upload a file from your device, or select a file from cloud storage (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.).
Step 2: Choose a Template
- Once your video is imported, you will be prompted to select a visual style.
- Use the toggle in the top right to choose your desired aspect ratio (Landscape, Square, or Portrait).
- Click on one of the pre-designed templates (which include dynamic captions and specific framing) to apply it to your clips.
- Click the blue Next button. The AI will now process your video to find the best highlights.
Step 3: Review and Edit
- The AI will generate multiple clips based on the most engaging moments of your original video.
- You will see a list of generated clips, complete with AI-generated titles and brief descriptions of what the clip contains.
- You can click the Export button to download a clip immediately.
- If you want to adjust the clip, click the Edit icon (the pencil on paper) next to the Export button.
Step 4: Quick Edit vs. Full Edit
- Clicking the Edit icon opens the Quick edit interface. Here, you can easily change the caption style, trim the length of the clip using the timeline slider, or toggle captions on and off.
- If you need to make more advanced changes (like adding B-roll, transitions, or audio effects), click the Full Edit toggle at the top of the screen. This will import your generated clip directly into the main Flixier timeline editor as a new project.
Using Eva (AI Assistant)
If you are already working inside the main editor, you can ask Eva to find and extract clips for you without leaving your timeline.
Step 1: Prompt the Assistant
- With your long-form video on the timeline, click the Assistant tab on the left-side menu.
- Write Turn my video into a short clip in the prompt box.
- Eva will analyze your video and return a Shorts Review Card summarizing the best clip candidates, including generated titles and durations.
Step 2: Review and Generate
- Eva will prompt you to choose a visual template and aspect ratio for the generated clips.
- Eva will process the files and return a grid showing your generated, auto-subtitled clips.
Step 4: Editing Your Extracted Clips
- Hover over any of the generated clips in the grid and click the Quick Edit icon (the sliders) that appears.
- This will open the clip in the Quick Edit interface, where you can modify caption styles and timing.
- Just like the standard Clips tool, you can click the Full Edit toggle at the top of the screen to push this specific short clip back into the main timeline editor for advanced adjustments.
